Bill Book

William Book retired in 2008 from a highly successful 37 year banking career that culminated with a Senior Management role as Vice President and Regional General Manager with Canadian Western Bank (CWB) in Edmonton. His strong team building and business development skills contributed greatly to the growth of CWB in Western Canada. Bill grew up in Berwick, attended Acadia University and although his career took him away from Nova Scotia for a number of years, he and Helen (a Dartmouth native) returned to their roots for good in 2008.. Bill has extensive Board experience in the Not-For-Profit sector – 12 years Alberta Diabetes Foundation, with 2 terms as Chair and 10 years Better Business Bureau, Central and Northern Alberta, with 1 term as Chair. While with the Alberta Diabetes Foundation he led a Capital Campaign to raise seed money for development of the Alberta Diabetes Institute which was established and continues today as a leader in diabetes research in Canada at the University of Alberta. Since returning home he has focused his time on family and Board work, serving 7 years on the Halifax Harbour Bridges Board and in addition, doing committee work for HRM. He is an avid golfer, plays old timers hockey and enjoys many outdoor activities.
