Northwood works hard to be a great place to work in Nova Scotia. You see it though the commitment and dedication of staff and volunteers, many of whom have been with us for several years. Because of this dedication, we are proud to announce that Northwood has been named one of Nova Scotia’s and Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers for 2023! This special designation recognizes employers in Nova Scotia and in Canada’s four Atlantic provinces that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. 

To win these awards, employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition and are also compared to other organizations in their field to determine which organization offers the most progressive and forward thinking programs.

It is incredible to see Northwood rewarded for all our hard work in maintaining a progressive and diverse work atmosphere, innovative training, skills development and our strong community involvement. Maintaining these programs and this designation helps Northwood to recruit and retain high quality staff to ensure our residents, tenants and program participants receive the best care possible.

Northwood is known for helping their employees and making sure they are well taken care of. We encourage employees to put their health first with up to 18 sick days annually and coverage up to $1,800 for mental health practitioners as part of our benefits plan. Northwood helps employees plan securely for life after work through a defined benefit pension plan and offers phased-in work options for those nearing retirement. To Northwood, family comes first and employees who want to start or expand their family is fully supported with maternity leave top-ups for new mothers and paternal top-up for fathers and adoptive parents.
