Learner Admission Requirements:

• Grade 12 certificate, a GED equivalent to grade 12 or Mature Learner

A mature learner must:

▪ Be a minimum of 21 years of age and have been out of school for at least one year

▪ Demonstrate the necessary numeracy and literacy skills

▪ A documented assessment process must be used including a recognized assessment strategy – e.g., TABE Test or TOWES

• Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check indicating no criminal conviction (current11 Canada wide police check)
• Proficient in the official language in which the Program is delivered (French or English); as required a recognized testing tool will be used to gauge proficiency.

Student applicant’s language proficiency level needs to meet or be equivalent to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 8

Student discloses ability to meet requirements on admission:

• Travel to and from school and all placements (vehicle)
• Perform basic computer literacy skills (basic word processing, check and send email, basic web browsing skills) before skills development placement
• Perform job requirements (physical and other)

• Proficient in the official language in which the CCA Program is delivered (English)
• International student applicants must present an English Language proficiency test from either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with an overall band score result of 6.5 or Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) with an overall band score result 8.0.
• Student applicants have the option to completed the English Proficiency Test using DuoLingo. A minimum score of 105 is required to pass. For further information, please visit the website.
• Current/ valid driver’s license and vehicle or access to a vehicle for the duration of the program and for all required clinical placements (skills and mentorship placements) and classroom attendance.
• Obtain a minimum pass mark of 75% for this program
• Perform basic computer literacy skills (basic word processing, checking and sending emails, basic web browsing skills, basic Excel and PowerPoint). Computer literacy testing will be conducted using the Northwood Computer testing documents.
• Students will be required to have their own laptops or access to a laptop for the duration of the CCA Program

• Present the required immunization and infectious disease screening.
• It is the responsibility of the student to provide documentation of proof and dates of the following immunization:
  • Varicella
  • Td (once every 10 yrs.)
  • TdaP Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (within 10 years and documented)
  • MMR 2 – documented 2 doses or serology confirming immunity
  • COVID 19 Fully vaccinated
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis

Contractual Responsibilities

• All students enrolling in the CCA Program with NCC will be required to sign a student contract with the college.
• Students applying for the provincial funding through Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care will be required to sign a 2-year provincial contract.
• The above contracts set out program details, terms and conditions of enrolment, employment, and repayment details if student fails to complete program. These contracts must be signed by the student and an authorized college.
