Northwood

Hello, my name is Claudette Noble and I’m an LPN at Northwood’s Ivany Place.

I definitely feel it’s an honour to work for Northwood and care for the residents who live here. I’ve always loved working with the elderly and consider it a privilege to be part of both their life and their dying process.

Before coming Northwood, I worked at Lunenburg Memorial, Bridgewater Hospital and many years in both acute and long term care in Ottawa. Over the years, I had heard a lot of good things about Northwood. So when I learned a new facility was opening, I jumped at the chance to be a part of it. I was hired in late 2009 to begin working when Ivany Place opened in April 2010, and work full time between Lighthouse and Mayflower Point (level one care).

One thing I have learned over the past six years is that Northwood is all about learning. It seems there isn’t a day that goes by that there isn’t some kind of education offered for staff. I recently completed the nine-week Alzheimer’s course and thought it was fantastic! I would suggest it for anyone wanting to sharpen their skills and learn more about dementia. It’s also wonderful to receive the managerial support to be able to participate in all of the education sessions offered.

Outside of Northwood, I am a huge animal lover! Over the past 32 years, I’ve rescued 16 or 17 dogs (six of whom I kept) as well as many cats, rabbits and birds. Right now, I have two cats and two birds.

Another one of my passions is interior decorating and ‘playing house’. I love the ocean and collecting beach glass, and am currently working on seaside-themed décor for my house. This includes plans to install a barn board wall and countertop!

I enjoy travelling and particularly love Cuban culture. I’ve been to Cuba 27 times; touring sites all over the island and making connections with the local people. I’m planning my next trip for later this spring!
