Who We Are

The Northwood Foundation raises the funds needed to support the development of programs and services at Northwood that add to the quality of life for residents and clients. 

The Foundation provides funding over and above what is covered in our annual operating budget for new equipment, special projects and initiatives, staff education and research. As demand for more services and programs increase and new needs are identified, the Foundation continues to play an important role in the development of Northwood.

Robert Patzelt, Q.C., ICD.D. is a business executive with over 25 years’ extensive experience in all facets of organizational leadership and business development. He is an award-winning speaker, strong and effective communicator and skilled negotiator with recognized expertise in law, risk management and corporate governance. He has been a respected Board Director for multiple organizations and a leader and/or supporter of a number of major initiatives in a variety of corporate, not-for-profit and non-governmental agencies including some undergoing major transformational change.

Robert was awarded both the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals for his contributions to Canada.


Born and raised on the South Shore, Carla has been a successful banker for 24 years. Carla managed two branches before heading to Newfoundland & Labrador to assist in overseeing the 42 branches there and back to Nova Scotia to assist in overseeing the 32 branches in Southwest Nova Scotia. Currently, she is a branch manager in Sackville.

Presently, Carla sits on the boards of the Sackville Business Association and the Northwood Foundation. She believes in giving back to the community supporting Anchor Industries, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Junior Achievement & United Way just to name a few.


After graduating from St. Francis Xavier, Steve joined PepsiCo where he spent 14 years. In his last 5 years with the company Steve served on the National Executive team with responsibilities as VP & General Manager for Atlantic Canada.

After PepsiCo, Steve launched his own venture in the pre-fab housing industry. His passion for architecture helped him create a company called East Coast Modern.

For the past 5 years Steve has worked in natural health products, first as the Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Ascenta Health and for the last two years as VP & General Manager of Nature’s Way Canada.

Steve is active in the community serving on the boards of the Grocery Foundation of Atlantic Canada and the Northwood Foundation
